Anne Hathaway Cottage earned its name in 1944 after it was remodeled. It resembled the cottage in which William Shakespeare’s wife, Anne Hathaway, lived at Stratford-Upon-Avon
The cottage, built around 1888 originally served as the carriage house and stable on the estate owned by Walter Buck, a wealthy financier from San Francisco. His estate includes the grounds where Archbishop Alemany Library currently stands
The original beam with pulleys attached were used to hoist bales of hay for storage
It once housed the Dominican College printing Press, and a wood shop for Lyn Elder who made medieval and renaissance musical instruments
It now houses faculty and staff offices
Anne Hathaway lawn has been used for Mass of the Holy Spirit, Baccalaureate Mass, Hood Ceremony and other events
