The State Board of Education adopted the History-Social Science Framework on July 14, 2016. Curriculum frameworks provide guidance to educators, parents, and publishers, to support implementing California content standards.

The California History-Social Science Project (CHSSP) is a collaborative, statewide network of classroom teachers and university scholars dedicated to improving classroom instruction, student learning, and literacy. Through its programs, leaders provide teachers with a research-based and classroom-tested approach to improve students' understanding of the past, critical thinking, reading, and writing.

The National Council for History Education provides professional and intellectual leadership to foster an engaged community committed to the teaching, learning, and appreciation of diverse histories. Through historical inquiry, NCHE empowers learners to research and interpret the past.
