Interlibrary Loans and Link + Services

Introduction

When you need books or journal articles that are not available in our library or our bookstore, you may request them through interlibrary loan. Dominican offers you several options of interlibrary loans,:

  • Traditional Interlibrary loans - This is usually used for borrowing academic books and journal articles from other colleges and universities. This takes some planning. Articles are quick but books can take up to 2 weeks to arrive. You can use the request form below OR you can use the Request Through Interlibrary Loan option for an item in the book catalog
  • MARINet - MARINet loans are for books from libraries across Marin County. If you see that a book is available from MARINet you can order it an have it in a few days.
  • Link+ - Link+ loans are for books from participating institutions from across California. Books from Link+ only take a couple days to arrive.

Setting up Your Library Account

To borrow books from MARINet and Link+ you'll first need to set up a Library Account.

When you need books or journal articles that are not available in our library or our bookstore, you may request them through interlibrary loan. Interlibrary loans are available for Dominican students, staff and faculty only.

Most interlibrary loans request can be made directly through the book catalog or the online databases. Use the form below to request books and articles that you find outside of the Library's resources.

Requesting a Book Through MARINet

MARINet is a consortium of libraries in Marin County from which Dominican students, faculty, and staff can check out books, ebooks, and DVDs.

In the Library's online catalog, you'll see the option to Request this title if a book is not available through Dominican but is available through MARINet.

  1. Select Request this title
  2. Enter: your name, the barcode number on the back of your Penguin Pass, and your PIN.  If this is your first time using MARINet you'll need to create a PIN.
  3. Choose "Dominican" as your pickup location.
  4. Submit your request.

What is Link+

Link+ is the largest borrowing consortium in California, linking us with dozens of Academic and Public libraries from across the state -- even a few in Nevada.  

  • Borrowing will be easy, using the same login you have set up for MARINet.  If you have not set up a MARINet account yet, instructions to create your login are below.
  • Delivery will be quick, via the same courier service we use to provide MARINet deliveries. You can check out a book for 3 weeks and multimedia for 7 days.
