This course prepares you for historical work in public history careers by grounding you in current methodologies, theories, and best practices. You will engage in place-based learning and gain practical experience through client-based research, developing research skills that extend beyond traditional archival work and historiographical argumentation.
An Opinion Piece is your opportunity to express your informed opinion based on your understanding of the issue involved-- set against the historical background required to understand your claims - but not to rant!
You should focus on the current issue - showing how history supports your argument. Feel free to deploy brief historical examples and quotations where appropriate. If you need to refer to an author, do so briefly in the text e.g. 'As historian David Smith has argued'... There is no further reading and definitely no footnotes in H&P opinion pieces.
Read the Harvard guide before you begin.
500-700 words required. DUE September 20th
