Printmaking

In this guide you will find the supplementary materials you will need for this course!

Patterns

Below you will find an assortment of patterns from around the world categorized by either organic motif or geometric. Please note the similarities and location of these patterns.

Our first project - a relief print - is based on the study of pattern. In visual art patterns have been created for many thousands of years throughout the entire world. Why are humans seemingly compelled to make patterns? What is a pattern? We begin the project by studying patterns found in cultures spanning the globe, from patterns thousands of years old to those created in our own era.

After preliminary research we will create our own patterns by synthesizing motifs from source material discovered through this study. Use this Research Guide to begin exploring pattern!
