HUM 5112: London: City and Culture (Spring 2016): Recommended Books

Books to Consider

The books cited below are related to the subject matter of HUM 5112 and are available in our circulating collection.  They represent only a small portion of the titles in our collection related to this course, so please explore the catalog in greater depth by using keyword and subject searches.  When you find one of these titles on the shelf, remember that books of similar subject content will be found nearby.  These titles are listed in call number order.

Starting to Search Alemany's Online Catalog

With the recent inauguration of our new online catalog interface, you will see that it is now possible to search Dominican's book holdings, the holdings of MARINet (the public library system for Marin County), Camino (the consortium of eight California university and college libraries) and, finally, the monumental holdings of WorldCat, the joint catalog for the world's libraries!  So if Dominican doesn't own a title you need, you can order it directly online from another institution and, in most instances, have the book delivered to Alemany Library on your behalf within two or three days.

In view of this new interface, you will probably find it most convenient to search for resources using keyword searches, in much the same way as you search our full-text journal databases.  You may retrieve a very large set of titles using this approach, but you can always limit this initial set by using the opportunities to "Refine Your Search" by Author, Format, Year, Content, Language, and Topic (a new name for Library of Congress Subject Headings) located in the left column.  Limiting by Topic (LC Subject headings) is still a helpful way to narrow your search results because subject headings classify titles that are related topically under the same heading.  Since you can approach this or any other topic from numerous vantage points, you'll also be able to glean additional LC subject headings and more focused keywords from the catalog records of featured books provided in the column to the left of this box, "Books to Check Out."
