Library Workshops: Workshops

Request a Workshop

For Faculty

Would you like the library to set up an extracurricular workshop for your students or your department and collegues?  You can choose from one of our á la carte worshops listed below or we can work with you to create a customized workshop tailored to the needs of your class. Talk with your library liaison today about setting up a future workshop.

For Students

If you and some of your classmates need some help, talk with your libarian about setting up a workshop.  We can teach you advance database searching, help you brush up on your APA or MLA citations, or learn how to start your page numbering page 3 of your thesis. We ask that you have a group of 5 or more classmates and we'll work with you to set up a time and arrange for a meeting space.

Library Databases

Is there a particular database or two that you think you or your students should know more about?  Request an in-depth exploration of a database(s) that you think would be helpful for your classes.  Some examples to choose from are:

  • ARTstor
  • Passport GMID
  • ERIC
  • PsycINFO

MS Word Tips

Do you need to know how to set up page numbering or automatically generate a table of contents for your papers? These are common questions as students are finishing up their papers, but it's easier to do if you set it as you go along or before or before you finish.

Primary Sources

What are primary sources?  Why are they important and why do we use them. Learn how to distinguish, find, and evaluate primary sources.

APA or MLA Citation Styles

Do you or your students need to learn the basics of APA or MLA citations styles?  This is an introduction to in-text citations and how to format references and works cited.

Google Scholar

You know Google, but do you know Google Scholar?  We can give you an introduction to show you how to set it to interact with our databases and RefWorks, how to find peer-reviewed articles, and other tips and tricks related to Google Scholar.
